Training in research theory and analytics and writing for publication workshop in January, 2020, in Macao:
By Arch Woodside

Arch G. Woodside is presenting a 3 full-days training workshop at IFT, Macao Institute of Tourism Studies, on two topics: asymmetric (case outcome) modeling for beginners using fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative analysis (fsQCA software) and writing papers for publication in ranked academic journals.

Admission and equipment requirements: Participants are requested to bring a pc laptop (NOT an Apple laptop) to the sessions; as well as downloading the free software, fsQCA.com, version 2.0 at http://www.u.arizona.edu/~cragin/fsQCA/software.shtml.  Low-price housing for the workshop available at IFT.

Pre-conference homework assignment: Workshop participants are requested to read the following article before 3rd January, 2020: Arch G. Woodside (2014), Embrace•perform•model: Complexity theory, contrarian case analysis, and multiple realities, Journal of Business Research, 67, 2495, 2503. Available at www.archwoodside.com.  Additional information available at:  Website: http://itrc.ift.edu.mo/news-items/writinglaboratory  and  Enquiry: itrc@ift.edu.mo

Details of this training workshop are at: http://globalhospitalityeducators.com/linked/sept_9_ift_-_advanced_research_and_journal_writing_laboratory.pdf

Skills and learning objectives:

  • Learn why and how to switch theory and data analysis from variable to case-based modeling;
  • Learn how to calibrate (convert) values in variables into membership scores;
  • Learn how to test a priori model propositions for accuracy and coverage using fsQCA;
  • Learn how to analyze (create and test) for alternative models that achieve high accuracy in predicting outcomes;
  • Learn how to create visuals of theoretical models using Venn diagrams;
  • Learn how to use the free software for algorithm model building and testing;
  • Learn how to test for the predictive validity of your highly accurate models on additional sets of data
    - can generalize sample findings to populations in case study research not only to theory;
  • Learn how to use complexity theory tenets as the foundational propositions in your theory;
  • Learn how to write your research manuscript for acceptance by top tier journal publications from

Prof. Woodside who will be coaching participants hands-on during and off sessions.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Researchers, scholars, higher education faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, postgraduate students

REGISTRATION FEE: Macao ID holder: MOP 6,460; Non-Macao ID holder: MOP 8,400

ACCOMMODATION: IFT Dormitory, East Asia Hall, Taipa Campus; MOP,300 per night per room

Exclusive materials and resources for workshop participants:

  • At the workshop, participants receive workbook of PPT slides, readings, and data file exercises;

  • Free electronic copy of Arch G. Woodside (2010) (1st Edition), Case Study Research: Theory, Methods, Practice Bingley, UK: Emerald;
  • Free electronic copy of new book "Accurate case-Outcome Modeling" will be given to each participant at or after the workshop;
  • Participants receive up-to-half day individual, free consultation on their research projects: design, data analysis, writing, paper review, and submission with Prof. Woodside via Skype and/or email.
