Kaye Chon

Research

  • Prof. Kaye Chon's current research involves human and robot interactions in hospitality service and the ways to enhance efficiency in hospitality operations. A Pepper Robot, a 121cm tall humanoid robot manufactured by SoftBank Robotics. joined his research team in April 2022. The humanoid robot, which was given the name Mirae, a Korean word for "the future", will be engaged in field experiments on robotic service scenarios in hospitality settings.
   

Conference

  • Kaye Chon hosted the 5th Global Tourism and Hospitality Conference, which was held on 12-14 June 2022 in a hybrid format. The conference was attended by participants from Austria, Canada, Denmark, Ethiopia, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Macau, Mainland China, Pakistan, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey and USA. Six Academy Fellows (Dimitrios Buhalis, Kaye Chon, Chris Cooper, Cathy Hsu, Haiyan Song and Arch Woodside) contributed to the conference as speakers and panellists.

  • Prof. Frederic Dimanche had the pleasure to participate in the IAST conference in Leuven, Belgium, where I contributed to a panel about "the future of tourism and the academic landscape" led by Pauline Sheldon and with Suzanne Becken, Alan Fyall, and Christian Laesser.
  • In May, He hosted and moderated a panel about Service Excellence at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Toronto with the CEO of Porsche Canada, the Senior Vice President, Regional Manager Canada at Nordstrom, and the General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Toronto.
  • At the beginning of June, he contributed to Ontario Culture Days with an interview with colleague Greg Richards about cultural tourism. We talked about global perspectives on the state of cultural tourism, and different international initiatives to continue recovery and rebuilding in our sectors.
  • The Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management was recognized for its progress in terms of research in this article. *Please note that Ryerson University became the Toronto Metropolitan University in May.
