Marina Novelli

Events

  • Marina Novelli is a member of the World Economic Forum - Global Future Council on the Future for Sustainable Tourism. On 15-17 Oct 2024, she was invited to attend the WEF-GFC Annual Meeting in Dubai to discuss some of the most critical issues and collaborate in shaping agendas for the future of sustainable tourism. Amongst some of them, the problem of overtourism, climate change and waste management. For the occasion, she also wrote an agenda item on 'Tourism without Plastic' published on the WEF global platform: https://www.weforum.org/agenda/preview/a91bb7c6-2fa2-40a1-a620-d92452126db0/ . This Dubai Forum also provided participants with an opportunity to listen and contribute to broader cross-Voincils discussion on issues relating to sustainable and responsible business practices, policy requirements and much more.

Chris Ryan

Events

  • Chris Ryan enjoyed being able to "escape" from New Zealand for his first conference since the advent of Covid. That was the APTA conference admirably managed by Macau University of Tourism (formerly IFT). It was a pleasure to catch up with old friends including Fanny Vong, Don Dioke, and IAST colleagues Bruce Prideaux, Kaye Chon, Shawn Jang, and Fevzi Okomus and make new friends and to be reacquainted with colleagues from across Asia and former doctoral students. Chris Ryan also spoke on the conference panel regarding the Digitisation and Higher Education while was also on a panel judging best conference research papers.

Noam Shoval

Wish

  • Last year was not an easy one in Israel and our region due to the October 7 attack and its aftermath. However, comforting and encouraging messages from the large majority of the Academy members were heart-warming and supportive. Noam Shoval hopes that this coming year will be much better for all people in the region and peace and tranquillity will prevail.

Event

  • Noam Shoval spent about three weeks during September 2024 with Sara Dolnicar and Bob McKercher at the University of Queensland, Australia.

Award

  • Noam Shoval received a 5-year grant from the Israeli Science Foundation ($270,000): "Measuring the Tourist Experience in Time and Space Using GPS, Mobile Eye-Tracking and Physiological Sensors" in the beginning of August.
