David Airey

Event

  • Ten Fellows of the Academy took part in the 35 annual conference of CAUTHE which this year took place in Brisbane Australia, organised by the University of Queensland. Nine of these Fellows are shown in the picture: David Airey, Tom Baum, Susanne Becken, Sara Dolnicar, Heather Gibson, Christian Laesser, Bob McKercher, Daniel Scott and David Simmons. Scott McCabe was also at the conference but missed the photograph. Daniel Scott was the opening keynote speaker and other Fellows presented papers and took part in various panels.

Events

  • Metin Kozak paid an Erasmus visit to the School of Journalism & Communication Studies, the University of Bucharest, Romania. He delivered several lectures on marketing and research methods and also had the privilege to meet Prof. Surugiu, the Dean, to talk about the future possible collaborations between the two institutions.
  • In December 2024, Metin Kozak delivered various conference series held at three universities in Turkey. Kozak talked about the principles of academic writing and current progress in tourism research and education.
  • Metin Kozak has been appointed as the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Tourism Research.

Chris Ryan

Events

  • Chris attended the Critical Tourism/ATLAS Asia-Pacific conference hosted by the School of Tourism, University of Hainan. His keynote presentation was on the theme - what is unique about Asian tourism.
  • At the same conference he was awarded a lifetime achievement award for contributions to tourism research in the Asia Pacific, as was fellow IAST member, Professor Nelson Graburn.

Future Plan

  • Chris will retire as Professor at the University of Waikato at the end of March 2025. He will continue however to supervise postgraduate research students on a part-time contract.
